I think we need to consider the likelihood of two apparently similar sized diamonds, of the same cut, with the same larger-than-average cutlet. Family history can be quite wrong at times. For instance, if the story was that it was from a tiara made in the 1800's, that could (over time) become "we acquired it in the 1800s" that kind of thing. Speculation, of course, but one with some teeth, as it were. --Previous Message-- : A jeweler once explained to me that old cut : diamonds let light escape through the point : of the diamond, while new cut diamonds : reflect the light, making the diamond more : brilliant. What looks like a hole is the : area where the light passes out the back of : the diamond instead of reflecting like the : rest of the stone. This is not a physical : hole. :
