Many thanks LDMJ. Queen Mary has disappointed those of us who expected her to be ablaze with her characteristic display of grand jewels. A description of her at the Vatican was given by Mary Lascelles in the Western Mail in 1935 http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/38393209?searchTerm=Vatican%201923%20AND%20%22Queen%20Mary%22&searchLimits=exactPhrase=Queen+Mary+|||anyWords|||notWords|||requestHandler|||dateFrom|||dateTo|||l-illustrated=*ignore*|*ignore*|||sortby I suspect that, for whatever reason, no photos were taken. The Times did not have a description of her jewels, although it and the Illustrated London News confirmed that HM wore black. The only illustration I have been able to find was in the Illustrated London News which stated it was done by the only artist admitted. This suggests that, as well as pearls, Queen Mary wore a couple of ornaments on her veil. All most unlike QM's usual jewels for a State Visit.
