A beautiful and delicate piece, the aquamarine tiara from Grand Duchess Ella, made by Fabergé circa 1900. Acording to my notes it was given to the Hesses around 1905.

Stunning and imposing aquamarines from Queen Ena of Spain.
Many years ago I read on Hola magazine the story on how the queen got her aquamarines. She saw her cousin the Empress of Russia wearing these stones and liked them very much, but she was afraid to ask such a gift to her husband because, being the Romanovs so wealthy, she thought these gems would be tremendously expensive. When she finally told the king about her fears he laughed and bought her the gems.

She first had them set on the frame of her pearl tiara, but it was too fragile to hold the huge pear shape aquamarines, so years later she had it reseted as a circle tiara, similar to the Vladimir tiara. The diferent pieces of the aquamarine parure wore worn by her daughters, grand daughters and great grand daughter Pss Sybilla wore it for the prewedding of the HGD of Luxembourg. Althought not on the main line, its wonderful its still in the family. Credits: my archives, 3rd pic found on Pinterest.
