    Belgian Emeralds Archived Message

    In a post below, Maria Olivia asked me to start a new thread about the emeralds worn by the Belgian royal ladies. This is mostly just copied from my post below but I did add a few things.

    I have some questions about the many emerald pieces in that belonged to the Belgian ladies.

    Where did they come from?
    I think that some of them were gifts from Astrid's parents and some gifts from Leopold's parents but I don't know which is which.

    Where did they end up?
    I know that the emerald cross pendant and the emerald bracelet/choker went to Grand Duchess Josephine Charlotte but that is it.

    Which of the pendant necklaces was the cross that was made from parts of the Norwegian Emerald Parure and was later turned into the Emerald Peacock Necklace/Tiara by Grand Duchess Josephine Charlotte? How many other emerald pendants were there and were they also used to make the Emerald Peacock tiara?

    Was the Emerald Necklace/Tiara a gift from King Albert and Queen Elisabeth on the birth of her first child?


    Is this the same large emerald brooch that was later worn by Princess Lilian? Is the necklace made of emeralds or is it her diamond riviere with an emerald pendant?


    Is this the same as one of the pendants above?


    Is this brooch the same as the one worn by Princess Lilian? In a previous discussion Karlimagnus calls this the Marie Valerie of Austria brooch, Marie Valerie was Queen Elisabeth's first cousin

    In a previous discussion, Ella Kay found articles mentioning several emerald jewels that were wedding gifts to Queen Astrid.
