Úrsula what a treat! Thank you very much for these beautiful pages on my most beloved Queen Amélia!
I am however confused on a few things because at some point you mention that the groom, future King Carlos, gave his bride Pss Amélia the diamond tiara now seen on Dona Isabel and that is not correct. On another line is mentioned that the king gave her a tiara that had pearls (?).
Here is another sketch, made at the time of wedding, of the jewels given by the four members of the Portuguese Royal family to Pss Amélia as wedding gifts.
The Diamond tiara was a gift from King Dom Luis I to his new daughter in law. Queen Amélia herself has always referred to this jewel as the "Dom Luis diadem". Queen Maria Pia ofered the mirrored necklace. The groom Dom Carlos ofered the saphire and Diamond necklace. Infante Dom Augusto, younger and only surviving male brother of the king, ofered the opera glasses.
This information can be read on the book on the portuguese royal jewels, "Se as jóias falassem" (If jewels could talk) by Eduardo Alves Marques, written in colaboration with Dona Isabel, who allowed her jewels to be photographed.
