I'm with you on this one, Beth. But I don't know how it can be enforced.

I know of three contributions I've made that have been published, but no acknowledgement from this board:
    1. Sharing that the tiara used by Cate Blanchett in 'An Ideal Husband' is the same one that Crown Princess Mette-Marit wears
    2. Sharing that the flower tiara Sophie Wessex wore in Denmark May 2004 as a loan since it was being sold by Kentshire Galleries that December.
    3. Recognizing that Kate's charm bracelet came from Camilla upon seeing Camilla's cypher engraved on the opposite side. A few hours after posting on this board, Daily Mail writes that "a friend close to the couple" was their source that the charm bracelet came from Camilla.

I wish there was a way to protect discoveries made, but posting on boards may not be the best way to do that because the information becomes public domain. I just try to get over it when I read bloggers reporting the same thing days or months later without acknowledging that the information came from this board because I still think that sharing a find with fellow royal jewelry enthusiasts is important.

One idea I was thinking of is trying to self-publish all the discoveries of this board into a book. Each individual would submit what they've discovered to an overall editor and then we can have our first book contributed by RJWMB members. Just a thought.

    Best wishes to everyone!

: Over the last 2 years I have noticed that many
: of the insights, deductions and discoveries
: of members of this board have been used on
: blog sites without any, or minimal,
    : attribution.
    :
: In one case a precisely annotated image by
: one of our members was used as well as that
: RJWMB poster's insight, deduction and
    : conclusion without any acknowledgement.
    :
: In all cases I have seen the impression
: given is that the blogger concerned has made
: the discovery. In some cases this board has
: been mentioned but usually only to suggest
: that RJWMB members have made some minor
: contribution which the blogger has deigned
: to acknowledge to highlight his/her self
: proclaimed credentials as a researcher.
    :
: In the past week I have come across 4 such
: sites, which is why I am raising the issue
: now. (The two I discovered today outraged me
: and have prompted this comment.)
    :
: The only re-used discovery from this board
: which I have seen fully acknowledge is
: Vincent's regarding the Vifte tiara.
    :
: I realise that we are all pooling ideas on a
: forum which can be viewed by anyone, but
: posters still have intellectual property
: rights regardless of this being an internet
: forum, and those rights are the same as if
: the person published in a book, journal,
    : magazine, newspaper etc.
    :
: Perhaps the bloggers have no idea of the
    : rights of intellectual property?
    :
: I wonder if board members would like to
: formulate a policy regarding how to handle
    : infringements of intellectual property?
