Twining in European Regalia has an Appendix about tombs that have been opened and regalia found. For example, the tomb of Edward the Confessor has been opened three times. In 1102 "there was a crown on his head and a sceptre by his side". In 1163 the body was moved to a new site. "...the royal robes were removed and made into vestments for the clergy to use on special occasions". (A certain yuk factor there I think!) In 1269 the body was moved again. "A list or coronet of gold about one inch broad was found on the head and left undisturbed."
