As the others have stated, Queen Mary is wearing the Cambridge Sapphire Parure. It seems to have included a lot of different pieces which have been altered over the years, especially by Queen Mary. The original owner of the parure was Princess Augusta of Hesse-Kassel who married Prince Adolphus, Duke of Cambridge. It then passed to her daughter, Grand Duchess Augusta of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Queen Mary then either received or bought the parure from her aunt. They were said to be quite close so I assume GD Augusta left the parure to Queen Mary when she died in 1916. Queen Mary then gave the parure to Princess Marina when she married Prince George, Duke of Kent, in 1934 and it was inherited by Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, in 1968. The parure was worn by his wife Katharine for a while but at some point the Kents auctioned off the tiara, necklace, stomacher, and maybe some of the other pieces. The British royals don't have much pre-Victorian Era jewellery so it's a shame that this parure has been sold off piece by piece. Can you imagine Queen Elizabeth II wearing this parure instead of that sapphire necklace (that should have stayed a necklace) tiara?
