In the late 1970s, Crociani was the CEO of Finmeccanica, which is still one of the largest defense contractors in the world. He was involved in the infamous Lockheed scandal (so was Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands) and was charged in 1979 but fled to Mexico before he could be arrested. Crociani died there the next year and his widow, took over his business interests. From what I could tell in the Italian news articles the family still holds some stock in Finmeccanica but their wealth really comes from Vitrociset, a defense technology company. Before he was charged in the Lockheed scandal, he transferred ownership of the company to a friend so that it couldn't be seized by the government. Later, Edoarda became the owner of Vitrociset and Crociani's two children from his first marriage accused her of tricking them into accepting a smaller (still in the millions) inheritance than was due to them.
