I agree with the theory Arthur put forward in 2014 that 2 of the original 3 brooches were at some point incorporated into the Kent amethyst necklace. This morning I realised that the press reports always talk of the Duchess of Kent wearing a diamond and amethyst stomacher - which to me signifies something larger than the brooch we currently see worn by QEII. During the 19th century many stomachers were made of three separate pieces. I wonder if that explains why some authors speak of 3 brooches; yet today we are aware of only one? Perhaps there are some other drops which we do not see worn today?
