What an interesting article, thank you Ursula.

As Ursula noted in her article the media was definitely divided over whether the then Princess Augusta wore a diamond tiara given to her by Queen Adelaide or a sapphire and diamond tiara.

One paper, The Standard 29 June 1843 reported both in the same edition. In the first mention of the bride's dress it had

On the next page in a description of the dress of the principal ladies it had

Unfortunately, the Illustrated London News doesn't provide any hints about the bride's tiara - as none is depicted.

Despite the fact that the Times reported that the then Princess Augusta wore the diamond tiara given by Queen Adelaide, I suspect that the Princess did wear a sapphire and diamond tiara. The second image from The Standard above was from a description of the ladies' dresses. This included anomalies such a description of the dress of Queen Adelaide who was indisposed and unable to attend as originally planned. I suspect that Princess Augusta, for what ever reason, changed her mind after a description of her gown and jewels was sent to the press.

As I had been finding numerous reports stating that the Duchess of Cambridge wore a sapphire and diamond necklace, earrings and stomacher for many years after her daughter's wedding, I wondered if the Cambridge sapphire parure had been given to the then Princess Augusta as a wedding present; however, Ursula's report of the wedding gifts proves that the then Princess Augusta was given a sapphire and diamond parure.

I wonder if there was any indication in the reports as to whether the parure was new or had originally belonged to the Duchess of Cambridge?

    Again, many thanks Ursula.
