    Thank you, Arthur, that's interesting. The two pieces look indeed strikingly similar. If only the pendant to be auctioned wasn't so properly cleaned it would be easier to compare the shape of the diamonds. The bottom one seems to be rather square in the Princess of Joinville's brooch, but that might be only due the flatter angle of the photo.

    One can make out that the setting at the flat ends of the cross seems to match. Maybe the triangular tips appear a bit more pointed in the Princess of Joinville's brooch. That might be an optical illusion though due to the sharper contrast of the oxidized metal. In the pendant to be auctioned the tip to the left of the loop has a slightly distorted angle, which I can't make out in the other piece.

    On the other hand the way the brooch fitting peeps out just below this little prong in the setting of the far right diamond in both pieces is conspicuous...

    Anyway, wouldn't the catalogue mention the provenance in one way or other to score a higher price if it was indeed the Princess of Joinville's brooch?
