The George IV State Diadem is exactly that - not personal property. It is, I think, considered part of the Crown Jewels. If I am incorrect in that thinking it is part of the jewels "to be worn by all future Queens" (Regnant or Consort). --Previous Message-- : That is a very interesting question Bella. I : suspect we are all trying to think of which : jewels we would think are more important or : prefer. : : I am going to exclude things like crowns, : scepters etc as they belong to the nation : and are not jewels at the disposal of the : monarch or members of the royal family. : : I am going to concentrate on jewels which I : think are historically important. : : Considering how long QEII has reigned and : her personal popularity, my first choice : would be the Girls of Great Britain and : Ireland tiara, because it has become : identified as HM's favourite tiara. : Something which has become synonymous with : such a long reigning, respected and popular : monarch would resonate with generations to : come, and so is important. : : Another jewel would be the Diamond Diadem, : not just because it is associated with QEII, : but also for its association with Queens : Victoria, Alexandra and Mary, and dare I say : because it was originally designed for a : male monarch to wear going to his : coronation. : : The popularity of the diadem with various : Queens would not be my primary reason for : preserving it; rather that it has been used : by 2 Queens Regnant on stamps and banknotes. : That has given it a historical significance : which is part of the UK's national and : international identity. : : I would also select some other jewels, but : perhaps others might like to list what they : think should be preserved. : :
