The parure is supposedly sent by Queen Anna's mother Czarina Maria Feodorovna in 1821 to replace the amethysts lost in the fire of 1820. In 1850 the son of baroness Van Nagell, Anna's Mistress of the Robes (I'm not sure if this is the correct translation of Grootmeesteres), got married. Anna spontaneously took off the amethyst jewels she was wearing and donated them to the bride and groom. That's how a Dutch baronial family acquired Romanov jewels.
