    How photography has at times confused me Archived Message

    Franck's recent query about the Duchess of Cornwall's necklace at the State banquet reminded me that I had been perplexed for some weeks by a series of photos I found of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother wearing a brooch I didn't recognise.

    [All the photos below were taken on 9 November 1950 at Poplar, London.]

    I was baffled by this photo



    Two others in the series did nothing to help me solve the mystery.





    Only when I found some photos in the Getty collection did I realise which brooch HM had worn.

    Not only had the Queen worn one of her most glittering brooches but she had diamonds on both wrists and wore some of her more impressive pearls, possibly hoping to boost morale in an area which was stilling recovering from the damage caused by bombing in WWII.
