QD question - Mary bandeau and necklace

A major frustration with Queen's diamonds is that not all pieces of jewellery that are worn in a photo are named. Ok - so having got that off my chest ......... does anyone know what the bandeau and 'fringe' necklace are that Queen Mary is wearing on this picture from page 162 ?

We have discussed these before and I don't think we ever resolved them. Another look at the necklace, though I think the detail at bottom centre is slightly different. I just think it looks more "chunky" and longer as a her tiara. It's on page 28 in the QD and the only other pic I have is, as tiara, - EDIT: my left pic appears to be same photo session as on page 31 in QD. I have always thought that Diana was conscious of being the first Princess of Wales since Queen Mary, and of following in her footsteps for a time, at least stylistically. She was heavily criticized for adopting a new hairstyle just before she accompanied the Queen to the Opening of Parliament. But the style was very reminiscent of those worn by both Queen Alexandra and Queen Mary when they were Princesses of Wales. Rather than trying to overshadow the Queen (who could on an occasion like that), I thought Diana made an effort to express her respect for both their positions. It was too bad no one seemed to get it. jinja

I agree that it must be Queen Adelaide's fringe. Queen Mary's fringe has a different outline, higher, with pointy centre and shorter at the sides.

Yes - when we can compare the two in the QD, the major spikes of the Queen Adelaide fringe (p29) are topped by a really tiny diamond above the biggest, whereas for the Queen Mary (p189), it is a small diamond (larger than tiny) above the biggest. --Previous Message-- : I agree that it must be Queen Adelaide's : fringe. I remember the 'fuss' made about Diana's new hairstyle. It wasn't really a new hairstyle as it was a way of wearing her hair upswept and keeping the tiara in place. I'm no Vidal Sasson but that's my take on it.
