QD: Duchess of Teck's tiara loaned to Duchess of Cornwall

According to page 122 of The Queen's Diamonds, the Duchess of Teck's wild rose and crescent tiara was loaned to the Duchess of Cornwall. So far - to my knowledge - we've only seen Camilla with the Delhi Durbar and the Boucheron Greville tiara. Does anyone know of the occasion on which DoC wore the Duchess of Teck's tiara?

It is clear from the phrasing in The Queen's Diamonds that within the royal family, historic jewels are no longer "gifted" they are simply "loaned". The main case being 'The Greville Tiara' which has been worn solely by The Duchess of Cornwall since 2005, which in the past we would have assumed meant it had been gifted to her. Now however, perhaps due to the lessons learnt from the numerous divorces of the 1990s, family heirlooms are simply loaned. Thus it could be the case that 'The Duchess of Teck's Tiara' has never actually been worn by The Duchess of Cornwall. It is simply in her possession, in a safe at Clarence House; and maybe one day she will wear it. I have these two pictures of the Shand-Cubitt Tiara in my files: P.S.: In the TV documentary 'The Queen at 80' the Duchess of Cornwall is shown shortly with this tiara. Last year it was said that for her wedding the future Duchess of Cambridge had the choise btw three tiaras, one of them being, of course, the Scroll Tiara. Maybe it was the same for the Duchess of Cornwall? She chose at first the Delhi Durbar but for whatever reason (weight, style) she ended with the Honeycomb, the Teck being the third choice at her disposal.

Are these replicas or real pictures (because all of these look so yellowish). In think the Teck Diadem would have been great for Catherine as bridal diadem.

They are the real tiaras. The image was taken when all three where loaned by Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother to an exhibition. Plus taxes - were it to be gifted, wouldn't Camilla have to pay significant taxes? I believe Charles had to pay taxes on her engagement ring, which was given to him outright by the Queen Mother. This story of the Duchess of Cambridge being able to chose from three tiaras, is to me, a complete fallacy. That was dreamed up by the newspapers prior to the Royal Wedding last year; when there was a public appetite for "news", but no new information to write about. No information was ever released about the jewels; other than on the wedding day itself, when it was simply announced that the Duchess of wearing the Queen Mother's Cartier Halo Tiara. It seems to be a story that will perpetuate, like Diana choosing her engagement-ring from a tray of rings sent from Garrard; which has since proved to be incorrect. --Previous Message-- : Yes, I suppose it would require the Queen's : permission. I must say I have never found a reliable source for the three choices story. Death duties An arrangement was reached between the government and George VI over death duties and his estate. No death duties payable if passed from sovereign to sovereign. The Queen Mother's was treated as the widow's estate under that arrangement, so hers passed to the Queen as well. There were reliable reports at the time. It did avoid forcing the sale of jewellery we view as essential to the reigning line of the family. That private collection would be decimated quickly if death duties had to be paid on the death of each sovereign. Speculation - A similar arrangement might apply today - perhaps relating only to the private property we identify with the reigning line. If so, then Charles would inherit all the jewels we pore over, and the majority in the QD by the way, and he would lend pieces to ladies of his choice. ... I cannot remember the source, that give the real story of Diana's ring. But from what I can recall it was a reliable source. It argued that Prince Charles chose the ring, prior to proposing to Diana, selecting the well known sapphire and diamond ring from Garrard. One of the key points in the story of her engagement ring, and the fact that Diana didn't chose it; was that Diana herself has been quoted as saying that if she had the choice, she would have chosen something much plainer and simpler. I believe the story of Diana selecting the ring from a tray and stating "it wasn't the biggest by far!" (as stated by Field), is the same as the story of Kate Middleton having three tiaras to chose from; it was a "news" story written at the time of the royal wedding in 1981, when they was an appetite for all things royal, yet no new information released. Thus the newspapers conjured up stories that have been perpetuated. Furthermore, it is of note that Diana's engagement ring was not a unique or bespoke piece. The Garrard catalogue from 1981, shows that it retailed at £28,500.
