Queen Margrethe’s new tiara, a 40th jubilee gift from Greenland, has now been finished. Made of gold, small diamonds and rubies at a cost of about 40.000 Euro, it weighs a quarter of a kilo and is convertible into five seperate brooches. It seems that some small-sized of the infamous 'poppies' are incorporated in the design. I agree, IMHO it’s quite an intricate and appealing variation of the traditional tiara shape in blossoms. Amazing tiara, but I found the earrings really ugly. The expression of the Queen her face is amazing, she looks so happy, so lucky to see her new tiara!

The design of the earrings strikes me as something of a misconception - why those bows in a design which is meant to go with blossoms? - but I like the tiara at second glance even more. The concept to dispense with any flowers' leaves and create the design completely with very naturalistic blossoms is interesting in itself, and IMHO the execution is quite successful. To create balance without reverting to symmetry is always a difficult undertaking; I'd say that goldsmith Nicolai Appel did a great job. I really like it! It's beautiful, and a proof that contemporary made tiaras can be lovely and totaly wearable (quite the oposite of others, like the wedding gift elmet tiara of Princess Máxima ). You're quite correct, no bows in the earrings - I was referring to the top part of two flowers being kind of tied together, which leads at first glance to a bow-like shape (see below).
