Both the diadem as well the veil were heirlooms. According to Hola! the veil was used by Princess Irene in 1964. The Dutch couturier Addy van den Krommenacker had long and intensive work in restoring the veil. Too bad that there was no Bourbon-Parma diadem, the Bandeau however was fantastic with the veil.

I think Carolina has prooved the Dutch Royal Family should have elevated this particular tiara as their Wedding Tiara. It looked good on Laurentien and now looks stunning on Carolina. I think all brides looked fantastic, I like the variety in diadems. Only the Van Vollenhoven ladies seem to have a sort of wedding diadem tradition. Princess Beatrix with the Württemberg Ornate Diadem Princess Irene with a -now lost- Bourbon-Parma diadem Princess Margriet with the Pearl Buttons Diadem Princess Máxima with a diamond stars-diadem Princess Mabel with the diamond sunray motif diadem Princess Laurentien with the bandeau à la grêque The Duchess of Parma with the diadem from the Emerald Parure with pearl spikes instead of emeralds The four Van Vollenhoven brides with the Ears-of-Wheat diadem

I don't like the variety or the fact that tiara's are worn by several ladies in the family. I would prefer a system where some pieces have a special status like a Wedding Tiara and something like the Diadem QEII wears to the opening of parliament every year. In my view the bandeau a la Greque as the wedding tiara and the ears of wheat for the inauguration and Prinsjesdag would have worked very well. The Stuart parure, the Mellerio Ruby parure, the Saphire parure and the great Pearl tiara could be reserved for the Queen(s) and the Peacock Parure and the Pavlovnik Pearls for the Princess of Orange. Other women of the family could either get personal pieces or the use of some pieces or a parure for life. There is already a division: the grand pearl tiara, the grand sapphire tiara and the Stuart parure are only worn by queens, while the same goes for the ruby Mellerio tiara with 1 exception of Maxima in Stockholm and Beatrix as crown princess. Beatrix has also worn the Sapphire Tiara once as Crown Princess but I agree that it adds a certain importance to a piece when it is reserved for the monarch or spouse of the monarch. I didn't enjoy seeing Maxima wearing the Mellerio Ruby Tiara for that very reason.
