Like the Midnight tiara designed for Crown Princess Mary, another jeweller is making a tiara for princess Marie... There once was a lily. It was a beautiful flower that grew on the sides of French mountains. It swayed gently in the summer breeze and let the dew dance on it’s slender petals. One day a young Danish prince passed the lovely flower, picked it, and took it with him to his kingdom and an adventure was born. It was from this story that the idea of creating a special tiara dedicated to HRH Princess Marie using the design of a French lily came about. In collaboration with HRH Princess Marie and the Flora Danica designer Anja Blinkenberg, they created a fantastic tiara which tells the beautiful love story between HRH Princess Marie and HRH Prince Joachim in an elegant and simple design. The tiara is created in silver and consists of three naturalistic lilies, symbolizing the Princess, her husband and their son. Beautiful small silver threads spring from the each of the lilies centre and end up as glittering stamens decorated with small diamonds. As you can read in the first post from EricS in the tiara's description, the base is made of cabochon amethysts. Amethysts are also dangling at the bottom of the earrings. I find them odd too, like an afterthought to lend the tiara more substance; they're disconnected from the flowers above, and I don't quite understand why amethysts weren't used in the flowers as well (perhaps in the stamens) in order to make the design more cohesive. --Previous Message-- : Are those pierced cabochon saphires in the : base of the tiara? I'm all for these modern artisinal tiaras. One edit I would make is to remove the string of amethyst beads from the base. It makes it look like something from a children's party. As before, I think this is a very poorly cheap looking piece inasmuch as the technical skills needed to create this piece could have been matched if not bettered by any entry level Jewellery student or hobbyist. The Lilies are clumsy in their execution, and amethyst beads irrelevant. Thanks Boris, I was reading it in a rush at work pause and missed that part. Still not confortable with the amethyst base... the designer could have found a diferent way of including Pss Marie favourite stone in the tiara. Ouch! I am happy I am not the creater of the design or the jeweler reading this... Personally, i am waiting to see it worn by Princess Marie... We could all be surprised!! I have seen many tiaras and they look very different when worn. And Princess Marie has the righ hair and usually the right hairdoo for tiaras... When it comes to craftmanship and design, I have to add, that the Flora Danica company is not renown for their quality in DK like Georg Jensen (or other Danish jewel-makers). In my family their products are considered something you give to an old lady... Maybe it's wrong - but I have never thought about FD as something WAU or something I would buy fro my sister or girl friends...
