As I was going through CP Maxima's pictures, I noticed by accident that she was wearing her wedding and engagement ring on her right hand...so I went back in the archives to see how far back she switched the rings on the opposite hand..and the first event was June 4th of this year when she was first seen with the engagement and wedding bands on her right hand....here are few photos from the events from June 4th until now.
My question is, I know that Queen Beatrix is wearing both of her rings on her right hand and so do most of the family members except CP Willem-Alexander... so what this switch might indicate to Maxima? and as you can see its not temporary...she has attended 9 occasions where she was seen with rings on her right hand and her usual jewels on the left, which were normally seen on her left.
I used left and right hand from the same event to show which rings were worn on the left hand.

I have no answers but I dearly love that substantial gold link bracelet with the cabochon stones. Any time that she tires of it . . .

We'll have to fight over it (oh so politely), but still. Drool.

Or could it be a change of her weight and/or the weather/temperature.
I notice my rings change in fitting either as my weight changes or the weather gets hotter and cooler. And our fingers are generally not the same size from one hand to another.

There has been a TV-programme about her half a year ago or so and one of the items in it was about the fact that Maxima wore her weddingring in the Catholic fashion. The programmemakers did draw the conclusion that she still was a real catholic (if I remember correctly also Alexander wore it on his left hand).
Which in itself is strange because they put it during the wedding-ceremony on the right hand.
They might have changed it now because Willem-Alexander said in 2001 that the House of Orange would remain protestant and they probarbly didn't like the fact that this TV-programme made such a fuss about it.
We should keep in mind that the House of Orange has a very fervent following in the socalled Biblebelt (part of Holland where people are predominantly very religious and of the most fanatic protestant denominations). This group still exists of some 500.000 Dutch citizens and has its own schools, newspaper, political party and although not always clearly visisble still real influence on a lot of things...
I think the Royal family/court tries to keep these people "on board". Because of the very prominent secularisation of our country a lot of this half a million people are becoming more and more critical towards the Dutch state, government and other institutions etc.
They have always been the most loyal and supportive fans of the Queen and the Monarchy but are increasingly becoming more and more critical towards the Royal family because of Alexander and Maxima's Mondaine lifestyle (working on sundays, mingling with the stars and celebrities, costly holidayhomes, gay-friendlyness etc.)
Ofcourse neither Maxima nor Willem-Alexander will change big time but in changing the way they wear their weddingrings into the protestant fashion they have given a subtle signal to apeace this not so small group. They have thrown them a small fish as it were .
I think changing the rings from the catholic to the protestant hand right after the TV-programme would have been to obvious so that she waited a few months but has changed it now.

Thanks John, that is fascinating background to those of us who are 'foreigners' and don't know that sort of detail

I have never heard of this before. In the United States, everyone wears wedding and engagement rings on the left hand. There is no Catholic or Protestant style. I think of wearing wedding rings on the right hand as being European.

thanks John in Assen for your explanation...that all makes sense except why only Maxima switched the rings? I guess W-A will be next? I'll be following it closely.

If you look here on Wikipedia it tells you about which cultures wear rings on which hand and why. (well it tells you about some of them but not all)

Yes, I saw that, and it's interesting that in some South American countries the ring is placed on the right hand for engagement, and then switched to the left hand at marriage. This is perhaps Princess Maxima's native tradition.

Very clever and a much more unique "charm bracelet" than what we mostly see. Thank you for spotting this!

Thank you - Id never heard of different hands for Catholic and Protestant (I'm British) and even the Head of the Church of England (Her Majesty The Queen) is a left handed ring wearer as are the majority in this country.
