Would any of you know the brooch worn with the pink dress on July 4 for the Glasgow visit? I cannot determine if itīs amethysts, and am uncertain what flower it represents.
This brooch has been owned by The Queen for many many years, it was the brooch worn for the official announcement of her engagement in 1947, and has been worn since.
It's origins and provenance are unknown.
Here is a very clear image of the brooch.

in Leslie Field's book, page 138-"One brooch from the people of Australia, is a 3 1/2 inch-long, three dimensional hibiscus flower set with 346 flawless diamonds and thrity-four Burmese rubies. When Her Majesty was given the brooch in Canberra she immediately pinned it on, saying 'How beautiful, how very beautiful."
Queen Elizabeth II wore this brooch for the first time in 2006 during her Australian tour. She inherited the brooch from QEQM her mother.
I donīt think I have seen Queen Elizabeth wear this ruby hibiscus flower brooch before - though I seem to remember there being a brooch of the late QEQM worn in Australia in 2006. Itīs a lovely brooch.
As for the flower petal brooch, I didnīt recognize it from previous pictures. I am surprised it has been worn for such an important event as the engagement, yet nothing is known about it. Probably old?

I inferred that Torkel meant that the brooch belong to the late QEQM was worn for the first time The Queen in 2006; which indeed it was, at the opening of the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
By all means correct me if my inference was wrong.

I realize my post wasnīt clear, and am sorry if it caused confusion.
The hibiscus brooch was unknown to me, I cannot remember having seen it previously. However, I vaguely remember reading on this board in 2006 that Queen Elizabeth II wore a brooch inherited from her (by then) late mother. I also remember it had once been a gift to QEQM from Australia, but didnīt take any notes and only remembered once Brian and Maridje repeated the story.
