Hi everyone,
I'm new (as a member and posting) to the Board and have enjoyed many hours of perusing this blog over the last year. Wonderful to see all the many amazing pictures and the knowledge individuals bring to this glittering world of royal jewels!
My question is...I noticed the Duchess of Cambridge's earrings at the Opening ceremonies, and subsequently saw some close-up pictures of her on the MyRoyals blog. The hoop earrings seem to be aquamarines (and diamonds?), matching her outfit quite well...any info on these and has she worn them before? I would post a picture, but am too new at this so far, and don't want to mess it up!!
She first wore them during the Diamond Jubilee Concert. It has been confirmed that they are a custom piece from Kiki McDonough seen on this link: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=336164359805769&set=a.286721141416758.71520.132426196846254&type=1&theater
They open circle dangle is made up of blue topaz stones. The dangle hangs from a white gold diamond hoop with a diamond between the hoop and dangle.

Re: Duchess of Cambridge-Earrings at Opening Ceremony
Hi Anthony Welcome to the greatest board around. These are the greatest bunch of people with an encyclopedia of info and pics of who's who and what they own, borrow and sell of jewelry. I love this site above all else. PJ Kiser, Salem, OR USA

I just do not like the use of a readily identifiable, branded commercial piece like this Cartier necklace by a royal figure at a public event. The design is trite and overused; this type of jewelry is typically seen on someone who wants to show just where she bought it and exactly how much was spent. Poor taste. It's hard to imagine Lady Sarah Taylor, for example, wearing such a piece.

Of course, I meant to write Lady Sarah Chatto in the post above.

Re: Duchess of Cambridge-Earrings at Opening Ceremony
There has just been another "airing" of these earrings at the UK's Creative Industries Reception, pics are on the MyRoyals Blog: http://myroyal-myroyals.blogspot.com/
The dress the Duchess is wearing is very pretty...a great choice for Kate!

The article in the Daily mail states that the necklace is worth 49 000 pounds, and writes:
"According to royal aides, the white, yellow and rose gold necklace from the jeweller’s Trinity range has been part of her private collection for a while. Although it was not specifically designed for the Games, Kate thought it was ‘appropriate’ to wear to the exhibition, called The Road To 2012: Aiming High."
If it has been part of her private collection for a while, it is likely to have been a wedding present. I doubt the Duchess would buy herself jewels worth that much. And if it is a wedding present, I don´t see any trouble with her wearing it, even if it is a famous brand

I see no problem here either. The Daily Mail seems to feel it's their patriotic duty to always list the prices of Catherine's jewelry, dresses, etc., which they never have with the other Windsor women and certainly not Diana. If the necklace were paste, then the DM would be howling over her choice of cheap pieces. She has the piece, it's a beautiful necklace, the occasion is appropriate, she should wear it. --Previous Message-- : : I don't see a real problem here. Seems insecure to wear an item that screams its logo. Trite and stamped out by the millions in its various versions. That's the way it strikes me.

I totally agree with you Honor. These are the type of jewellery the brands make in large quantities and with a large profit margin and often lacking in design. So far what I see of DoCambr and jewellery, she is still very much Kate and not Catherine. Adding up jewellery after jewellery which is not unique or special or royal in any way. I'd rather see her have a small collection of splendid jewellery than this large collection of anyone-can-buy-it jewellery.

The Duchess may have agreed with you until the Games came along, and she decided to honor the Olympic logo by wearing jewelry with rings. Perhaps she also wanted to honor someone who may have given the necklace to her.

The Duchess looks absolutely stunning wearing her hair in a chignon! Beautiful, so much regal than her usual hair down! She has very long and beautiful hair, she doesn't need fake hair to create a fabulous hairdo. And I do hope she wears it like that the next time she puts on a tiara, it does make a diference as we know. We only have seen her with a tiara on her wedding day (and hair down), I am eager to see her first tiara oficial gala. Most likely the Cartier Halo again. Can't wait
