Crown Princess Mary has worn this diamond ring before, I know, but has it been discussed. It looks like an impressive diamond.

Could she have received it as a gift from CP Frederik when she gave birth to the twins?

She received it much later after the birth...I looked like her birthday gift. She normally wear new jewelry right after birthday and anniversary.
It is about 5 carat diamond (probably)..(she hasn't worn fake jewels since she became Crown Princess) in 4 prong setting, surrounded with pave set diamonds, also cascading half way down the band.... (I have seen a great closeup but can't post it here).
I just hope that it wasn't present for Frederik because what she REALLY need is "aquamarine" tiara to make a parure of all the aquamarine pieces that Frederik gave Mary...

I think it looks like a sponsor gift... HRH wears a lot of sponsored gifts (Danish brands like Georg Jensen, Marianne Dulong, Ole Lynggaard, Shamballa etc) - this one looks like it is from Hartmanns (hartmanns.com)

Thank you for all the comments. I am enjoying reading them. It had not occurred to me that it might be a "sponsored" gift, which I find to be an odd idea. Though I add that I love the tiara CP Mary does wear.

Hartmanns sure have some examples on their website which look close to what Crown Princess Mary is wearing (hoping that posting pictures will work!)
"Stor brillantring i platin prydet med 8,00 ct. rund brillant omkranset af 280 brillanter, i alt 2,14 ct. Top Wesselton/VS brillanter. Pris på forespørgsel"

To me the shown ring seems a bit vulgar for Mary's taste...I think she has over the years adapted a more scandinavian taste in jewellery and also clothing.

This ring is not even close in the design...similar but I wouldn't even compare the two...trust me,,I have seen the closeup
Mary's ring is surely special to her...she has tendency to over-wear jewel gifts when first acquired...She does wear a lot of Marianne Dulong..and now Lynggaard pieces...but I have never seen her with hartmanns pieces...doesn't mean that its not the ring from them but the design to me suggests that its NOT from them
Its definitely the ring that Mary wants us to notice...let's see if she'll wear it during a state visit.

When Glenn suggested it might be a piece of Hartmanns, I had a look on their website. That ring seems to me somewhat similar to what I can figure out on the photo Nellie posted, but of course I trust your judgement, Tamara, if you've seen a closeup of the ring.
As for Mary's taste in jewellery, I don't share Gemini's opinion. Thinking of her aquamarine jewellery I can well imagine her wearing a piece like that Hartmanns ring. IMO the particular stone is just too big for that elaborate setting, which makes the ring appear a tad "vulgar" or maybe better "loud" or "laboured" (at least "bemüht" is what I would call it in German), but I've a similar impression with some of Mary's pieces and would rarely think of her taste in jewellery as particularly scandinavian.
But well, the most important thing for me is that I've managed to post that photo on the first go!

Mayby you are right.....what is scandinavian style in jewellery? It can not be defined and pointed out exactly. But what I meant was that she seem to go for Less is more; also in her choice of jewellery design.

Gemini, I understood what you meant when I looked at a couple of photos from daytime events. She really seems to prefer jewellery with a casual, simple and contemporary touch.
It's different with jewellery for evening events, I think, where she mostly goes for a very traditional and representative style, often a bit cold and generalized in design, which I find not far away from that Hartmanns ring, the two or three Lynggaard pieces being a welcome exception.
I must admit, regarding contemporary jewellery I'd love to see one of these highly professional, disciplined, beautiful, well-dressed young royal women showing preferences for more individual pieces, one-offs instead of multiples and series, more daring and unconventional designs instead of repeating traditional "Formensprache", developing a personal style rather then fulfilling expectations what a princess should look like.

I could not agree with you more, Mauriz.
And I think Mary has taken a step in a more individual and personal direction by for example changing the ruby parure. In a way making it her "own" design.

I wish she had not done that. She destroyed Queen Ingrid's much more appealing setting.

She is the cat's mother, not a respective Crown Princess!
