My notes are inadequate and I would like to understand about this order, from Canada. There appears to be an Order on the table as well as the Queen wearing a gift necklace? But I must acknowledge Franck who obtained this pic for us!!

The Order of the Dogwood was British Columbia's highest award for civilian achievement from 1966 to 1989 when it was renamed The Order of British Columbia. The Queen's representative in British Columbia, the Lieutenant Governor, is the Chancellor of the Order.

Thank you Kirsten for the information, I'd never seen this gift necklace before. Lovely! I wonder why HM does not wear it, it looks impressive in gala gowns with a diamond tiara.

Well, British Columbia jade is not valuable.
It would have been a nice touch if the Duchess of Cornwall had worn the necklace and/or bracelet when she and the Prince of Wales visited British Columbia. The Countess of Wessex will be Canada in September but I doubt that she will wear any of the gifts of jewellery that have been given to the royal ladies from Canada. Last year in Ottawa when the Duchess of Cambridge wore Her Late Majesty The Queen Mother's gift from Canada in 1939--the diamond maple leaf brooch--it was certainly noticed and appreciated.

Currently I am away from my home that has all of my jewelry books so can not tell you from where the picture was reproduced. When I sent them to Joye or Franck I might have indicated which book they were from. I believe it was a small pamphlet type of publication. If you are still in need of the information in November I will be able to help you then.

Article says a Dogwood design Necklace of platinum diamonds and emeralds. Designed by Myra Hawes White, it was a 1951 gift from British Columbia. The Duke received similar cufflinks. The article says that the then princess was so delighted that Philip said why not wear it now. So she took her pearls off, and wore the new necklace in the elevator to her suite.

Hello Joye
Thank you for posting this picture of the coat-of-arms of the province of Ontario.
Did British Columbia give the Queen a brooch of their provincial arms?

Confusing. The picture says Ontario, the text which I was reading said British Columbia, and was in conjunction with the emerald dogwood necklace which definately was a gift of British Columbia.

Thanks, joye, for the photos of the necklace & the brooch.
The caption under the photo is correct. It is the Ontario coat of arms.
Thank you
