Looking at the present beautiful banner in GREMB with Princess Alexandra of Kent, I remembered what I always found strange. How come that she owns only a single tiara, even if it has with interchangeable stones (pearls, sapphires and turquoises). Not only I find strange that she did not receive more from her mother, Princess Marina, but also that her husband, Sir Angus Ogilvy, son of the second son of the 12th Earl of Arlie, and a succesful business man on his own right, was not able to give her wife a second tiara. OK, he a gave Princess Alexandra a nearly exact copy of Queen Elizabeth II's pearls and diamonds "Diamond Jubilee" necklace (actually Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee), but......
I have always felt that Alexandra never aspired to accumulating jewels. She had enough to appear perfectly grand and regal for occasions warranting that.
There is the theory that her mother left her jewels to her sons assuming her daughter would be provided for by the family she married into.

Princess Alexandra wears a colourful brooch. Might anything be known about it please?
The Queenslamd Government gave the Princess a brooch on her visit in 1959. Has this brooch been worn? Is there a photo of her wearing it?

When Princess Alexandra was young, she sometimes wore a pearls and diamonds necklace-tiara which had been a gift from her great-grand-mother Grand Duchess Vladimir to her grand-mother, Princess Ellen of Greece. This jewel was sold after Princess Marina's passed away, in order to pay death-duties. Here is the jewel (thanks to the Forum Alexanderpalace.org):
That's Princess Alexandra in Australia and originally scanned by me. Oh how the pics go round and round!
Here is her mother Marina wearing the piece.

The design of the necklace is surprisingly modern, I think. The repeated sweep (is that what one would call it in English?) without variations and distracting additions is somewhat remotely reminiscent of the design of the Duchess of Edinburgh's Bolin ruby necklace, without getting near its quality. Still, an interesting piece, but less than successful as a tiara IMO.
Since the sweep motif of both earrings have the same direction, I assume they were initially parts of the necklace?
