Lovely photos. The 9 Provinces tiara is a whopper tiara but definitely has a divided audience; some love it, some hate it. Since we know the arches detach from the bandeau, I would love for them to experiment with just wearing the arches as a tiara. It would give Queen Paola something different to wear once in a while. Dear Tamara, you are wonderfull! Ohh, I love this photo! I have a question about the necklace worn by Grand-Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte. Isn't it smaller as uausal? Could it be that she is wearing the bracelet as necklace and the necklace als bracelet? Persepolis

The picture taken at the Persepolis event is wonderfull also! An amazing view of the big bracelet with the green stone! But also the golden bracelet looks very nice! A shame we could not see the green pendant wich is coverd by her hands. Fabiola is wearing a diamond leaf of her diamond crown with a big green pendant on it!

To Hans: The maximum I can do is these two photos which were already posted in this board recently. As already mentioned, this brooch is an element of the tiara, which can also be worn as a necklace by mounting the leaves on a diamond chain. All these photos are from the book by Reginald Davies, "Royal Families of the World". Talking about the colour of the stones, I remember that at a closer look this pendant (the leaf above) had a nice looking emerald green colour, the opposite of the dark green we see when the tiara is completely mounted.

Don't know if the pendant is an emerald, don't know anything about its origin but I'm really impressed about the amount of jewels worn by HM Queen Fabiola. Most jewels are not seen for decades

I believe the "Congo necklace/diadem" (it was a gift from Leopold III and not from the Congo, I thought?) can be used in various settings. It looks like the bracelet is the diadem and the necklace is the bracelet, if you understand what I mean. I am also veeeery impressed by the massive diamond (I assume) bracelet of Queen Fabiola in one of the pictures.

I totally understand Henri M. It looks like the late Grand-Duchess wore indeed the tiara-element as bracelet and the bracelet attached tot the necklace-element as necklace. It was indeed a gift from her father, King Leopold III of Belgium, but there must be a connection with Kongo, I think the origin of the diamonds. The bracelet of HM Queen Fabiola is more as impressive, it's quite a stunning piece isn't it. Wouldn't it be a nice bandeau worn by the Duchess of Brabant

The diamonds of course came from the Congo, that is obvious. If these were acquired by the King or given "by the grateful people of Congo", that is another question. Princess Lilian counts as one of the most inventive ladies when it comes on the use of royal jewels. Queen Fabiola was quite inventive as well, she exploited her jewels to the max. This added to her very regal appearance, made her every inch a Queen.

What I really find amazing is that Queen Fabiola wears some kind of decoration. I have never see her wear one (except once in the Vatican - no doubt a papal decoration). Indeed, quite strange to see her wearing a decoration. HM Queen Sophia wore also a decoration, but not the same. Maybe there was a different decoration for queens and princesses?

The necklace and the top of the Persepolis brooch are a leaf of the Spanish weddinggift tiara with the green stones. There is the story that these were replaced by the nuns who owned the tiara before it was given to Fabiola so im not certain the green stone is a emerald or a fake. The drop on the brooch has a different colour and look to it in the close ups i've seen of that event so im not sure it is an emerald either. It could very well be another stone. Im not sure if Fabiola has any of the Swedish emeralds of her mother-in-law. Astrid did own a cross with emeralds but Fabiola has never been seen with it (neither have her sisters-in-law) so that piece may not have been left to any of her children.
