Ursula - did you pick up the detail, in the story of the sale of the cutlery? Wartski acquired the cutlery for Harrogate's Royal Pump Room Museum. A scrapbook of photos and telegrams, was included -
It contains photographs and telegrams from Carl Faberge - the famous jeweller - requesting pictures of their hotel to be used in the design of a golden Easter egg which was commissioned by Tsar Nicholas as a present for his wife.
Edited again to be clear: obviously there are some details to be sorted out but it is a great story. Whenever Wartski is involved I always think of "our Geoffrey" and his role on the Antiques Roadshow. He once told how some regular viewers of the show in Australia have champagne on hand. Every time he says Fabergé they drink a toast.
Thank you Nellie, yes, I had recogniced it. Interesting - details, hoped to get some sparkling pictures of the cufflinks.... and will add the information to the website. Thanks again, for the posting.
Thank you! I enjoyed reading and looking at these pictures of the Tsarina's gifts to those twins. It's unusual for a royal person to ask another person to become this person's children's godmother, isn't it?
