Wonderful! Thank you Kongetro. I felt very frustrated to see that all the menus were published in the French press but very little about the Queen's clothes and jewels. Sigh! |
Two details from the album
: I was looking through some old Norwegian
: newspapers in the hope of finding something
: there. As I have mentioned before they are
: not very detailed when it comes to
: describing the jewels worn at royal events.
: Most of the time they just leave it out
: altogether. But I did manage to find an
: article that had some information regarding
: the state banquet held at the Palais de
: l'Élysée. According to this the King wore
: his general uniform with the Grand Cross of
: the Order of the Legion of Honour. And as
: you already mentioned, the Queen wore a
: white dress. But in addition to this the
: article goes on to say that she wore a
: wonderful diamond tiara. At this point in
: time I presume the Queen "only"
: had "a few" tiaras at her
: disposal. If it had been the tiara she
: received as a wedding gift from her parents
: the article might have mentioned that she
: wore a tiara of diamonds and pearls . And
: taken the importance of the event I suspect
: she would have used her bigger diamond
: tiara, i.e. the one that was worn lately by
: the late Princess Ragnhild.
: There was no mention of the gala performance
: in the Opera, but maybe there will be
: something about in the next edition of this
: newspaper (which is "Fredriksstad
: Tilskuer" by the way).
: While looking around for this (and more)
: information on the State Visit to France I
: also came across a few very clear photos
: that can be amplified. Sadly I am not able
: to attach the photos here, but I will leave
: you all with the link in case you are
: interested. In fact is is better if you
: visit the site as you will then be able to
: increase the size of the photo to hopefully
: spot some more details:
: It is a book with a lot of photos from all
: sorts of events, but the photos from this
: visit is at the end - more precisely photos
: 100 - 105.
: Also - even though it has no mention of
: jewels - I add a link to a site where I
: found a copy of the menu from the state
: --Previous Message--
: Thanks Kongetro. Very interesting.
: I have tried to find reports of what Queen
: Maud wore for the grand banquet as well as
: to the evening at L'Opera, but all I could
: discover is that she wore a white dress!
