Thank you for that. I did just look up Alexandrine briefly so the info is greatly received . |
I think whilst my theory holds no proven water she could have gifted the tiara to Alexandra even though I think unlikely myself perhaps maybe as coronation gift? Were these ever listed or anything major received?
As the whereabouts are unknown we are still left with what happened to this piece and where is it now.
: Queen Alexandra died in 1925, Queen
: Alexandrine died in 1952, she couldn't have
: willed any pieces to Alexandra of Britain.

: Just an interesting throw in. Suzy Menkes
: her book spoke of the "Alexandra
: emeralds" that she said ended up with
: Edward VIII, Duke of Windsor.
: I can't remember the exact reason why but
: she alluded to some contention over them
: with the royal family. I'm afraid I don't
: have the book to look up further.
: Firstly Alexandra maybe inherited this tiara
: or was even gifted it from Alexandrine.
: Alexandra also seemed to always do very well
: at any major anniversary from relatives.
: Secondly as Alexandra died intestate perhaps
: Edward was given the tiara for the use of
: his future wife as heir apparent or she
: maybe gifted it before death.
: The Duchess's penchant for res-sets, swaps
: for other pieces and the robbery could
: explain the disappearance.
: Just a ponderer.

: I have just come across a sort of a list of
: wedding presents to Queen Alexandrine of
: Denmark. As we know, she was not one to wear
: a lot of jewels but quite a few nice pieces
: came into the Danish royal family through
: her. There is the diadmond fringe tiara (by
: inheritance I believe), the diamond drop
: tiara now with Alexandra, the sapphire
: demi-parure worn by Queen Margrethe just to
: mention a few.
: Now, the list of wedding presents is sadly
: in Danish and it is not stating who gave the
: different items.
: The link to the article:
: This is the paragraph I refer to:
: "Broche af rubiner og diamanter, diadem
: og broche af smaragder og diamanter,
: halskæde af diamanter, guldarmbånd med
: kløverblad i diamanter, diadem af rubiner og
: diamanter, guldarmbånd af diamanter og
: rubiner, halskæde af diamanter og safirer,
: broche af rubiner og diamanter, halskæde af
: perler og diamanter med vedhæng og
: diamantkæder, foruden alle de andre juveler.
: What especially caught my attention is the
: reference to a diamond and emerald tiara
: and brooch. Does anybody know more about
: this, as I cannot remember there being any
: other emerald pieces in the Danish
: collection apart from the crown jewel
