My daughter just messaged me from London that she went to the opening day of the Sotheby tiara exhibition & said that she really liked the display which had the tiaras hung and moving. Among the tiaras are Queen Victoria's Emerald Tiara & the Spencer tiara. Free admission. 34-35 Bond Street.

I have long been fascinated by variations of the Westminster Halo tiara.

Spencer tiara

The Catalogue Note for the Spencer tiara says -

"The Spencer Tiara is now set to be inherited by Princess Charlotte."

I wonder what is the source for that assertion. I would expect the tiara to remain with the Spencers and cannot see how Princess Charlotte could inherit it.

According to the blogger on The Court Jeweller, the rumour originated with New Idea,. From there it was published in several women's magazines, even embellished to the point of saying the little princess "was giddy with excitement". The blogger is of the opinion that the tiara will pass to Viscount Althorp along with the rest of the entailed estate.

Oh dear - the New Idea!!! Quite unreliable.
But I think it is very disappointing that a reputable firm like Sotheby's can include such doubtful material. That is a concern. I'd have thought their writers might have doubted it and set out to check it.

Power & Image: Royal & Aristocratic Tiaras at Sotheby's

Yesterday, the Beau Monde and I went to Sotheby’s to see 'Power & Image: Royal & Aristocratic Tiaras’, which I've written about, HERE, which offered some great surprises that were not even included in the online catalogue, namely the Westminster Bagration Tiara and the Buccleuch Diamond Belt, both of which we were sadly not allowed to photograph, but the Belt in my opinion was the most spectacular piece in this feast of jewels! What was most unique in the display was that the tiaras seemed to float in some of the cases, and upon really close inspection, they were held up by almost invisible wires.

We did speak to one of the people at Sotheby's about the mistakes in the online catalogue and they did say that they were glad to know, but I have no idea if they will be changed or not.
