Queen Máxima in Greece tonight

Queen Máxima is wearing the Mellerio Ruby Tiara for the Banquet at the former Royal Palace in Athens tonight, which was also worn by Princess Beatrix to the Wedding Ball of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia at the Palace in 1962!

Surprise! I really didn't expect a tiara after the last Belgium state visit to Greece but Queen Maxima did it and I love it. Interesting combination with this dress. Surely a coincidence that her mother in law wore it there for a greek royal wedding 60 years before. I am sure no pun intended here. Always a pleasure to see the very unique Mellerio tiara but I would have loved to see the bandeau a la Grecque aka tthe Laurel Wreath on her, if only once. Apparently she doesn't like the leavy pieces: She has not worn the Laurel Wreath nor the Ears of Wheat tiaras although she did wear (other) diamond ears of wheat in her hair at some point. It was for a wedding not a state Visit. Queen Juliana would have needed to receive Constantine first before going on a State Visit to him herself. Considering this was just a suit and tie event HM was a little bit overdressed but im happy she was. Though i agree it's a shame she did not wear the bandeau a la Grecque. A tiara that i think would look great on her. Im starting to wonder if that particular piece given to Beatrix by her parents is part of the family collection. It could very well still be part of her private jewels and intended to go to Constantijn's line. Still Maxima looked great both day and night and showed regal star power. Good on her.
