I was just thinking the same actually! Very often the men are overshadowed by the ladies when it comes to their magnificent jewels. But sometimes even the men put on some extra glitter, and I was thrilled when I saw the emerald buttons on the King. And I believe he was also wearing emerald cufflinks to match the buttons. Guildhall Banquet and more Royal buttons

The Duchess of Gloucester was bedecked in Emeralds last night at the Guildhall banquet. She looked wonderful I thought. As I mentioned earlier here the men are often overlooked here (and probably with good reason as they are not really the most glittering members of any Royal Family) but last night the Duke of Gloucester also seemed to be wearing jewelled buttons. "fully bedecked" was in the morning of Garter Day when the late Queen invested Camilla with all the Insignia of the Order, in the Throne Room at Windsor, but I don't believe it is correct to ever wear all the Insignia together. I have never before seen a photo from an Investiture, which has always been quite private. On this occasion the late Queen was not able to take part later in the day in the procession to the service in the chapel so we saw a photo. (I have never seen an Installation either and wonder whether or not the late Queen was in the chapel briefly.) Check this link https://www.royal.uk/order-garter where we can see the blue sash under the mantle, after the Investitiure in the Throne Room at Windsor. I would guess that Camilla is also wearing the breast Star and the arm Garter - but that is guessing because we can see the sash. In the public procession later in the day there is no hint of a blue sash. I have searched for pics of Garter ladies and the sash is never to be seen when they are dressed in the robes. I believe the sash is worn only on designated dress occasions, like the breast star and the collar. I might post more on the proper wearing of the Insignia when I've delved into a few books I have.

Charles has already worn these emerald buttons before, when he was still The Prince of Wales (here at the 2017 Diplomatic reception): Note also the jewel-studded breast stars of the Garter and of the Bath!
