Princess Astrid wore the ruby aigrette upside down

Yesterday there was a banquet for the Diplomatic Corps in Oslo, the first since 2019.
Queen Sonja wore Queen Maud’s pearl tiara and Princess Astrid wore her grandmother’s ruby flower aigrette.

If you zoom in on Astrid’s aigrette you would see that the centre element was mounted upside down compared to how she has worn it in the past. Maybe a mistake by a new hairdresser?

Anyway, does this mean that the two antennas are flexible and can be removed?

Well, Princess Astrid is very good for variation of her jewels.

Queen Maud's wedding list from the year 1896 notes from 2 newspapers:

A diamond ruby brooch from "Lady and gentlemen friends" (The TIMES) again figure in the collection, this time as an ornament for the hair composed mainly of diamonds and uncut rubies - cabochons. (The Guardian)

Thanks for the clear pictures. I bet a talented jewelry designer can combine the elements of the two aigrette to form one more substantial tiara. Such as placing the two diamond feathers along the two sides of the center ruby piece. It wouldn’t be hard to do but Astrid may like looking a bit accentric .

Oh I agree. A skilled jeweler merely needs to detach the ruby elements from the wires and solder them to the base, and then Astrid would have a charming ruby tiara. But I think she likes it the way it is.

Very nice, JohnPete. Even small alterations could make the aigrette more wearable for future generations.

I quite like it both ways. It is maybe not the most "modern" piece - but I love the fact that even so it is worn at events today. And I am sure that it has been a "conversational piece" at several events.. hehe
