The steelhead took their time coming, but as you can see below, it starts now. The first day of Fall began with a very cold morning. The air was cool, the water was a lot colder. Nothing much happened early, not even a trout. I stuck with it because that's just what you have to do. About 11:17 AM this beauty with a tap-tap-tap picked up a deep drifting Carpetbagger. The pull of the fly line set the hook and away this steelhead streaked with an amazing number of leaps. The first leap put my heart in my throat. Lucky for me that first run and efforts to escape was upstream! Eventually she turn down river. I followed along nubbing several nice hard runs before I landed the wild fish about 75 yards downstream.
I pulled the at least 30" fish into the flat water...
...where I tailed it and held her up for a fast photo.
Looks to me like the fish are going to make up in quality for their lack of quantity this year! So it begins, Fish On!
