The trend of quality over quantity continues this early Fall with regard to the upper Rogue River's steelhead. After two fishless outings, one early morning and one late afternoon, I hooked up with this nice hatchery buck today about 10:00 AM. The fish took a G.R. Hare's Ear nymph fished in tadem with a heavy Carpetbagger (magic fly) nymph. The big steelhead hit when I twitched both flies with the rod's tip during the drift. I'd noticed that recently the trout were more apt to hit when movement was given to the flies. The Rogue is down, flowing low, cold, and still. Only yesterday during the wanning light of the day did I spot large Fall salmon breaking the dark surface of the water. There's movement in the upper Rogue....
