If you are content with early Fall views, quiet, solitude, and steelhead weather now is the time on the upper Rogue. If you are looking to catch a big fish then don't hold your breath. The action is slow with only the troutski biting on occassion to an "active" nymph. The lack of guides working the upper Rogue should tell you something about the catch rate. The steady drizzle and clouded sky should be loosening up the fish that are already here, but they remain "out to lunch". The rain can only bode well for the fishing...I mean it's got to help and it can only get better. Just be here when it does. So the rains put the pheasant down hiding in the thick stuff and "running" through the high stuff...that leaves just one good option for the weekend. If you don't mind getting a little wet, the blacktail bucks should be loving this weather and out and about this opening weekend of rifle deer season.
