Upper Rogue River. Caught this very strong wild steelhead with my Beadhead Flashback G.R. Hare's Ear nymph. The steelhead jumped three times and threatened to leave the pool several times. Long cartwheeling runs. I really appreciate the fun and function I've been enjoying with that large arbor reel. Nothing much gets away!
The anchor fly was a Orange Beadhead Carpetbagger. Later I did snag up on the bottom or so I thought. When I straightened the rod angle and pulled to break the line, the bottom moved! I quickly realized it was a fish, but with a couple shakes it went free. I imagine it was a large coho or buck steelhead and the hook did not get good purchase in the mouth...
