Oregon's Rogue River during November will fish good, but sometimes it's just a boat ride. Teri and I anticipated hooking up with a couple good steelhead over the weekend. The water flow was down to a good fly fishing level once again. The weather was cold and foggy in the morning so we fished in the afternoon. I rigged Teri's rod up with a sinktip fly line. As she did not want to actively cast all afternoon, we settled on fishing the river using the famous, old, "Rogue River Twitch" method. With this method I pretty much just row and fish the driftboat holding above this and that likely steelhead holding spot. That way Teri could restfully sit and hold the fly rod, enjoy the float and scenery, but most importantly occasionally give the flies at the end of the sinktip line a vigorous "twitch"! The method works well particularly in warmer weather. Apparently the cold steelhead were not interested today in our efforts. A few trout were caught though.
Teri pulling in a trout caught twitching a sunken fly.
Teri gives a quick shake of the line and the Rogue River smolt is off.
Sitting up in the front of the driftboat, Teri thought she'd take some photos of the Rogue River as we splashed down a little riffle. Here's the approach to a little wave train.
