There have been several trips to the river since Thanksgiving, but not alot has played out on the upper Rogue. Fog and cold have dominated most mornings with a brief warm up happening after midday. Today dawned bright, clear and freezing cold. A short I-5 drive to the middle Rogue River brought one steelhead to hand.
That's alot better than prior outings to the middle/upper & upper/upper Rogue River. I will go so far as to say that fishing anywhere near the hatchery is much too cold and low for catching right now. Day before yesterday I took a look inside the hatchery holding pens and saw hardly any large adult steelhead or coho confined within.
