Flyfished the Rogue a couple days ago and the flow and color was just about right. However, the steelhead catching was slow. I suspect a lot of spawning going on right now. Especially up in some tributaries. A few jet boats running up and down the river...and at speed (of course
)Dry fly action came on in the afternoon to a nice little hatch. They were small bugs that I could not even spot on the water. Fished a size 14# BWO just the same and brought up some trout to that fly.
Tributaries are flowing with a little more volume and color since a couple days ago. And the Rogue flow and color has changed, going up and coloring slightly. Good time to take a drift float and cover some upper river this weekend...

: With enough fish into it to make it
: interesting now. It doesn't look like the
: rain forecast for this weekend is going to
: happen. So that means the Rogue River is
: going to get into good shape for winter
: steelhead fishing the remainder of March.

: Yesterday, I caught a steelhead on my very
: first cast. This is not the first time that
: has happened to me, but it was certainly
: welcome after a winter of nearly 10,000
: cast. Chrome bright steelhead really put on
: some moves too. They are hot in the high and
: heavy water of the Rogue.

: A recent visit to a nearby Rogue tributary
: proved disappointing. There's not going to
: be enough water over there this year before
: the end of March barring a major rain event.
: And that is just not going to happen. So
: stay fixed on the Rogue River for good late
: winter steelhead action. RG

: Pretty but not enough water for quality
