Late Spring days on the Rogue River have shown great variety in weather, scenery and catching. Most days have been exceedingly beautiful...some maybe just more gorgeous than the day before! There have been periods of wet weather accompanied by the flash and thunder of lightening. One would think that the salmon and steelhead catching would be up, but there are good days and bad days. The salmon remain characteristicly closed mouth, while the cutthroat and trout of the Rogue have provided interest.
Summer steelhead have begun to arrive. I'm still looking for the first one. I know it will not be long. The summer steelhead fish count is about 100 fish, but they will continue arriving through July. Around the first of July is always a good time for them...the combination of good water flow and warm temperatures. And of course they are such ready biters to the fly!
