I've been dove hunting out in the "killing fields" of Medford. The first few days were on fire. On day one I never shot so much in my life. Must have picked a good spot!
I did get by the river to check on the scene. I watch one driftboat hookup with a steelhead just above the Bybee Bridge. The hookup was terminated when the steelhead decided to run down the middle chute of the bridge. Speaking with that guide and clients later, I was told they hooked up about 4 fish that morning, all 16"-20" Rogue steelhead. I'm thinking it's about time to start fishing steelhead again...

: I've made a couple surveys of the upper Rogue
: River during the last week. Good news is
: that I'm over a bad summer cold and I feel
: up to it now. Bad news is that the effort is
: not worth it. And I really put in the effort
: searching. Friday was a near perfect day
: with cooler temperatures and overcast skies.
: I wanted some fresh fillets. Trouble is that
: the bite is not there yet. The trout are
: even fickle to the fly right now. I'd give
: it a good week and a half or so and then
: watch the success ratio go up! RG
