There are few here, probably, who would remember my friend Brent Marucci.
On my first day in London, I met Brent, way back in 1968. He was sisteen and I was nineteen, and he taught me to operate the board at CJOE.
A couple of years later, when I left the station to work for a record company, Brent took over my chair in the music library, and even got mentioned in Axes Chops and Hot Licks, by Richie Yorke.
When new owners replaced him, I hired him at my Sam's franchise, and, when Sam's sent me to open the west in Edmonton, Brent succeeded me as store manager.
By the end of the 70s, Brent was the first MD of the rock version of FM96, but he didn't last past his first year, because he thought the word rock was a musical style, rather than a marketing tool. When he left, I replaced him.
In the years since, we were best men at each other's weddings, and always found an excuse to get together to enjoy, food, music and herb.
Brent has always...i mean always...had a sore back, but over the last month the chiropracter could do nothing for him.
He went into the hospital on Tuesday for an MRI, and was kept in, passing away earlier today (Saturday).
I've been on the phone all day with various friends and associates, but have chosen this forum to let those who remembered him of his passing.
There will be no funeral service, but there will be many gatherings over the next while where old friends will sit together and have a few laughs in memory of our old friend.
