Al Mair is right, Jackie Shane's version of "Any Other Way" is not CanCon.
Any pre-1970 records could be CanCon if only one part was Canadian. In this case, neither the artist, production or the song itself were Canadian.
I do recall a live version of "Any Other Way" by Jackie recorded at a club in Toronto with trumpeter/band leader Frank Motley. If it was indeed recorded here that version would be CanCon because it would have production as the one part Canadian.
Interestingly, Big G on CKEY broke "Any Other Way" and CHUM, which played little black music in those days (or any day) was forced to play it and have it as a hit on their chart.
Back then there were a number of US-based black acts like Jackie that worked often in Toronto. I'm thinking of the Charmaines and the Sidewinders but King Curtis played often in the city.
Craig is right because I did do two shows on "Backstage Pass" tracing the history of local Toronto acts while I was at Q107.
Big G was also one of my heroes. At Q107, I used "Baby Ruth" by the Butterfingers as my theme. it was, of course, Big G's theme at CKEY.
It was my homage to my hero.
