I was music director at CKLB, Oshawa in January 1971, and I can assure you that while we didn't ever resort to hiding or cramming the Cancon (in fact I was brought in specifically because I knew where to find lots of unknown and countable material), the jocks hated the regulations and most of the music, which at that time was Gordie, Annie, Ocean's one hit and The Stampeders. And if that's all the good Cancon you have (or perceive), playing it 3 times out of every 10 is not going to be your idea of good programming.
Anybody remember "Then Came The White Man"? We got stuck with some pretty awful stuff at the time.
