CFRB finally got the message that Bill Carroll is a tad eh er a ummmmm....annoying in the morning. Took them long enough.
I think this is a much stronger lineup than they had though it still needs some fine-tuning.
As likeable and downright cuddable as Steve Kowch was (okay he wasn't the sole problem there but he shoulders a lot of the blame still), CFRB had been in a downward spiral for years and nobody stepped in.
You can only blame AM fragmenting to FM for so much.
The problem is the station stank. It was out of touch with what Toronto has become and had become a talk hybrid of the Gary Slaight-operated Q107 and a quasi new-talk station.
Tell me exactly where Greg Godowitz (Good show, just the wrong station Greg) fitted in with the Motts and Michael Coren?
Ted in the mornings was no Wally or even a Don Daynard. And Bill Carroll was no Ted.
And let us no forget the Slaights practically chased Don Daynard and Andy Barrie out of the building and into the arms of their competitors.
Now Andy Barrie rules talk mornings and Don Daynard....sigh....couldn't you imagine him as a followup to Wally Crouter.....He'd still be there.
Bill Carroll will spin this change as some kind of break for him to get off mornings with his family.
The bottom line Bill is that you ain't the swingin' dick at CFRB anymore.
A great day for talk radio, I'd say.
