ummm I hate to say this because I know it will draw howls of outrage...but can talk radio work....
I mean can you imagine if the Leafs came up with the following scenario to win the cup...we'll get Sidney Crosbie on a line...and the other guy on the line will be that fat middle aged guy who post on the SOWNY board, has buckled ankles and never learned to skate when he was a kid...
Anyone wanna take bets the Leafs wouldn't win a game...well that's what I am starting to think of talk radio...
The only place it seems to kinda work is Cross Country Check Up...don't know if they screen the callers more carefully or if folks who listen to the CBC are brighter...
I used to think Jim Richards was a smartass with not a huge amount of talent....then a couple of weeks ago they did a whole stretch where Jim did a couple of interviews without callers...one was with a guy making a documentary about biking in Toronto and the other was with a cyclist who have a gender issue (I can just imagine what Stan and Fran from Ajax would have said about a gender confused cyclist)...Jim was insightful and as good or better than any interviewer on the CBC...thn it was back to the phones and a caller yakked on about how the trouble with so many restaurants in Toronto is they sneak no name ketchup into hienz ketchup bottle...(hmmm no need for upscale places to advertise on 1010...) Richards went to being his smart ass self...
I thought no wonder all these hosts on CFRB are miserable...they have to deal with these sort of folks all day...
I guess talk radio is cheap...half the talents free...but you get what you pay for
