I see radio as a source of information (in the form of a newscast including sports and weather with an emphasis on local for all of the above) and music.
Musically I like hearing songs that sound good to me that I have never heard before (or if I have don't recognize). What I don't like is having to press my ear to the radio trying to get some lyrics to write down to look up on Google since chances are they won't announce who or what the song was anyway.
Of course this is becoming less and less of a problem on radio these days because it is the non-terrestrial radio sources - like Internet radio and that old school Muzak system at work - that play things beyond the standard radio fare we get nowadays.
I don't understand how the record labels can have so much rage about illegal downloading hurting sales when the very on-air staff and stations that are SUPPOSED to be helping them get people into new music receive little or no criticism for often not even bothering to say what they played.
Having said that I believe that KX96 in Oshawa has a policy of announcing every song they play. More need to be like this.
That would be a start.
