All AM station in Canada are supposed to have their transmitters south of the market they serve and beam the signal north to avoid interfering with American stations on the same channel. It is no coincidence.
Click on the "I" in the yellow box on any AM station inthe Canada section of radio-locator.com and then click on the highlighted "view daytime or might time coverage area" for a map. There a few exceptions, but not that many. Not that many AM station sleft either. The rule does not apply for FM, since it is essentially omni-directional.
